Fluvial Parade a success

Thousands of devotees showed up for the fluvial procession of the Senior Santo Niño icon this morning from Mandaue City in Ouano wharf to Cebu City Pier 1.

Faithful spectators watched from the sidelines and others came in boats from the ports in Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, and Cebu cities. More devotees along the Little Childs' procession route from the pier to the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño this early mornig.

Praising, shouting and chanting "Viva, Viva! Pit Senyor!", evryone waved their hands on the air. Others released baloons and threw flowers and confetti as the boat sail carrying the image of the Holy Child of Jesus made its way along the Mactan Channel at close 7 a.m.

The fluvial parade reenacts the historic arrival of Ferdinand Magellan in cebu in 1521 and culminates in the baptism of Rajah Humabon and Queen Juana at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño.

The Holy image of the King is now at the Basilica was presented by Magellan as a present to Juanas' baptism on her occasion to Christianity.

It is carried on a procession to the Basilica in a glass case debecked with blossoming flowers. Fireworks and drumbeats alive while devotees of Sto. Niño greeted the image with chants as it arrives in the Basilica at close 10 a.m.
